Radical Acceptance

In 2021, before I started working full time from home, I was a stay at home mom to my three kids. My husband worked full time, normal hours. I had a goal of losing weight and getting to the gym. But when was I supposed to find time to get to the gym when I was home ALL DAY and struggled to hear an alarm clock?

It felt like an uphill battle. I didn’t have time to go to the gym. I didn’t have help with my kids. My husband got home at 6pm and the kids were in bed about 8.

I remember being SO frustrated because I couldn’t go to the gym during the day.

I JUST WANT TO WORK OUT. Why is that so hard??

In comes radical acceptance.

I couldn’t change my husbands work hours. So I had two options. 1) Get my ass up at 4am OR 2) Go to the gym when the kids go to bed/after dinner.

Were they “ideal” options? Not really. But, if I wanted to go, that was what I had to accept.

I accepted that I’m NOT a morning person and was much more of a night owl. Sweet. Easy choice then.

I went on to go to the gym 2-3 days evening per week. Was I tired some of the following days? Sure.

But was it worth it? Yep.

Because I accepted what I could not change (when I went to the gym) instead of pouting about what I couldn’t change- I went on to get very strong and eventually started competing in powerlifting. (Toot toot)

That wouldn’t have happened without radical acceptance.

How many times have you wanted to do something but had every excuse in the book?

Time.

Money.

Etc.

What could have been different had you found a way instead of an excuse? If you would have accepted the things you couldn’t change, and worked around it instead?

Those single moms who are in school getting degrees and working full time? Inspiring, right?

Because they’ve accepted their reality and worked around it.

You can to.
